LaLa Life 13

A photo a week in the life of LaLa Photography, using various photographic mediums.

Week Thirteen

Last week I had the opportunity to buy this little cute sign to accompany my other 'typology' props. I love photography props and I'm slowly building up a bit of a collection to use on shoots.

The use of props can depend on what type of photograph you or the photographer wish to achieve as they can often set the mood of a photograph.  For example a fun prop such as bright flowers, picnic sets and even a typology prop pictured here can make a photograph feel lively and fun.  When using sentimental props such as family heirlooms or traditional cultural outfits, they can create a very old-style vintage feel to a photograph.

Props aren't limited to a photographer's collection; at LaLa Photography you are more than welcome to use your own! This could be a cultural outfit, a precious item of jewellery, a music instrument or even something as big as your pet horse!  There are so many types of props that can be used, just prepared to have fun with us when you use them during your portraiture session :)

LaLa Life 12

Week Twelve

Prior to any event, where possible, I like to scout the event's location. By scouting, I look for things such as possible places where photographs can be taken, how the light sets and anything distinguishing that might add that extra *oompf* to the photographs I take.  In week twelve I went to the Round House in Fremantle, as I'll be photographing a wedding here in the next few weeks, and while scouting I captured this stunning view.  Perth is so lucky to have such stunning locations, such as this, as backdrops to our photographs.

Week Eleven

(Filter: Early Bird)

Sealed using pretty stationery ( I heart stationery paper ) and wrapped up in a white bow, inside this beautiful package was a CD containing pictures taken on a couple's special wedding day; this is how LaLa Photography presents its images to its clients.

Despite providing images in a digital format, I treat the CD as if it were a professionally printed album. Images, regardless of their format, should be handled and treated with utmost care; after all it does contain photographs of a special moment in your life, whether it be of your family, with your significant other, the new addition to the family, or of you.

LaLa Life 10

Week Ten

When I started LaLa Photography, my ever supportive husband designed and made some business cards for me to use when clients had enquiries about my photography.  Unfortunately, the company that did the cards did not include a lot of vital details, such as my email address!

So with his blessing and support, I sought to get professional business cards done through Designs by Philana.  Maybe I am biased, but aren't these the most prettiest business cards you have ever seen? ^.^  Even better, she included ALL the necessary details for clients to get in contact with me!

If you know of anyone that might be interested in getting their hands on my business card for any future photography work, I will be happy to pop one in the mail and send it off to them; just email me their details!

Week Nine

I have been editing wedding photos the past few weeks and in both weddings, children (meaning under 10) have been invited.  I can understand why children are sometimes excluded from the wedding guest list.  In fact, sometimes it's the parents that don't want them to come.

Opting not to invite children is OK and is not looked down upon at all; each couple should do what they feel will make their day not only memorable but enjoyable!  I, personally, find it really sweet when children are present at weddings.  Their youth brings a different type of joy to the celebrations and it plants that little seed of fairytale romances, especially in little girls!

I still remember the weddings I attended to as a child and I loved the excitement in the lead up to the big day; the love that filled the church and the happiness of celebrating a couple's love at the reception.

In this week's LaLa Life photo, I captured a moment when my niece and nephew stopped playing to watch their aunty get married.  Despite their age, I know they will remember their aunty's wedding for the rest of their lives.  Do you remember the weddings you went to as a child?

In between settling my boys into life at school, small progress is being made with LaLa Photography's website.  This week I've been working on the website's blog area.

This is the first time I've entered into the 'blog' realm.  Currently there is one post up *WooHoo* with more to come with each session.  Be sure to check it out: http://blog.lalaphotography.com.au/

Footnote: BIG THANK YOU to my IT husband who helped me be my blogger interpreter / dictionary.  Who'd have thought something could be a "Widget"? LOL

Week Seven

Recently I've visited various shops looking for some flower headbands as props for my children's portraiture sessions.  For some reason, the shops I visited had only patterned headbands or ones with really small flowers (I heart BIG flowers).  So I did what one does when they can't find something locally; go on the world wide web!

These are just three out of the many headbands I purchased recently.  Aren't they just gorgeous?  Something tells me this is one prop that is not going to get 'lost' in my boys' toy box ^.^

Now to look for some boy props.  I need your help LaLa fans; any suggestions for some boy props or a shop (whether locally in Perth or online) that you would recommend?

I won't lie - marrying someone in IT has its perks.  Not only does my husband attend to all my id10t issues, he has taken a real interest in my field of work and its mechanics.  It's always nice when your partner is interested in what you do. :)

This week, we are in the process of building LaLa Photography's website.  Currently, it is up in the www but still needs a dose of 'pretty'.  Feel free to have a look and watch LaLa's website grow, and don't be shy about giving feedback.  I'd be happy to consider any reasonable suggestions. :)

When the website is upto my 'pretty' standard, I will be sure to announce its 'official' launch in the coming weeks.

Week Five

** Taken and edited on the iPhone standard camera **

It has been a rather hectic week at LaLa! I was on such a roll early on in the week and then this storm was supposedly coming to visit.  Yes, you know the one.  Cyclone Bianca.  While it would have been an experience had she came to Perth, Bianca decided to bail and Perth got nothing but a few showers and a bit of winds.

If not for my babies, I would of jumped at the chance to brave the weather and attempt to capture an awesome photo of the tropical storm.  However the furtherest I could go was my garden.  So while my babies danced in the rain, I took a photo of my garden plants that were enjoying the warmth of summer and the water from the rain.  This one is my Jade plant.

Week Four

I stoop so low just to take a good photo ;)

Haha I had to say it, and dorky me for laughing at my own jokes!  This is me at a maternity session getting down and grubby on the grounds of King's Park capturing the love between this sweet couple as they anticipate the birth of their little one :)

Week Three

For those not aware, three quarter's of the Australian state of Queensland experienced flash-flooding that has been described as an in-land tsunami.  These destructive floods have affected many communities and families.  The degrees of loss range from citizens losing possessions, their homes, right through to losing loved ones.

As the waters recede and the trail of destruction left by the floods starts to show its ugly face, communities are faced with the grim task of rebuilding their life.  In true Australian spirit, every citizen is helping in some way or form.

Week three of LaLa Life is a photo of LaLa Photography's tiny contribution to aid in the relief of those affected.  I would like to think that while the contribution is small, it is still a contribution none-the-less.  I can only imagine what these families are going through; my heart breaks and tears form in my eyes at the thought.  I live on the other side of Australia but that doesn't mean I can't do my bit to help...

Australia is the envy of many countries - we still value mate-ship; we do not capitalise on someone's hardship, we get up and lend a helping hand.  I urge my Facebook fans, clients and followers to consider donating to assist in the flood relief efforts.  Whether physically or monetarily, every little bit counts.

Week Two

Today I had to sneak to the toy store and pick up some props for an upcoming baby shoot. When we got home my son Andrew was too engrossed in his ice-cream to care what I was doing so I laid out my blocks to take a photo. Just at the last second he stops and sees them, "Mummy, I really like those blocks!"  There he is above, eyeing my photography props!

So at LaLa Photography not only do we work hard to take beautiful photos of your family, we also work very hard to ensure our children's prop inventory doesn't find itself in the children's toy box ;)

It is only in the past twelve months I have started to like coffee.  My apologies, my husband just read what I typed and demanded I rephrase this sentence.  It is only in the past twelve months I have become ADDICTED to coffee.

After trying various beans, my taste buds starting dancing whenever I use Yahava's Kahava blend in my morning mocha:

"KAHAVA (Bronze Medal Award) - Indian Tiger Mountain... grown in the coffee jungles of the Kilgirri mountains, this coffee comes with a bit of a warning. It packs quite a punch, with good acidity and rich body finished by a hint of chocolate. The Yahava light espresso roast leave a unique flavour which makes this a very interesting coffee and with the right grind is suited for all machines."

How divine does that sound? This blend is also my best friend during last-night editing sessions.

Drive-thru coffee company 'One for the Road' use Yahava beans in their coffees. This speciality blend can be bought at their Koffeeworks in Margaret River, Swan Valley or online (www.yahava.com.au).

"I love you not because of who you are, but because of who I am when I am with you"
~ Roy Croft

Jacqui stood a fair distance away and waited a while before walking down her green aisle. The celebrant's microphone was giving trouble and as it turned out, the celebrant did not charge the speaker and could not play a song for Jacqui to walk down the aisle.  Diaster? For this gorgeous, laid-back couple, it was anything but! Their beautiful family and friends made the day memorable for them by singing the Bridal March for Jacqui, if ever so shyly, as she walked down to commence 'forever' with Michael.

During their relationship, friends and family have seen Jacqui's transformation into a much more beautiful, and much more confident woman. I say 'much more' because she already was beautiful and confident to begin with; it was Michael who added 'more' to Jacqui's charming personality.  Similarly Jacqui has added 'much more' to Michael's gentle nature, giving him this quiet confidence and happiness only evident when a husband watches his wife speak to guests on their behalf.  This, my dear readers, is what makes this couple so wonderful. They compliment each other; they bring the best out of each other; they love each other.

It was an honour witnessing and capturing the moment Jacqui and Michael started their 'forever' as a newlywed couple.  Thank you.
