Adele's Pre-Ball

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." - author unknown.

After weeks of sunshine during autumn, winter decided to make an appearance on the 27th April.  It could not have been a worst time; it was the day the Lumen Christi College class of 2011 were having their Hollywood themed year twelve school ball.  The dreary weather did not dampen the spirits of a select group of year twelve friends who got together prior to the start of their amazing night.  Adele, a relative of my husband, allowed me to document her pre-ball festivities.  I opted to do so (predominately) in a photo-journalistic style.

After briefly taking some family photographs at Adele’s home we trekked to her friend’s house, which was to be the point where the limousine was to collect a group of close friends and their partners for the ball.  Upon entering, there were parents armed with still and video cameras, capturing a special highlight of their children’s high school life. Adele’s friends were excited and complimenting each other on the efforts each took to look so beautiful for the night, while complaining at the same time that they have never smiled so much in their life and were confused as to which camera to look at. Being a wedding photographer, and with all the posing and prepping I go through with my brides and grooms, I found this highly amusing.

It was such a nostalgic event to photograph, especially considering my ten year high school reunion is scheduled to be held this year.  Thank you Adele for letting me photograph this once in a lifetime moment for you.  I hope the images I captured will help you to remember your year twelve ball, long after you have left high school.

Footnote: As I have written this blog post event, I am happy to report that the evening was a success and fun was had by all.

E & G Wedding

"This time tomorrow everything will be different but nothing will have changed." - Emily May.

Emily and Greg's wedding was all about confirming the love they had for each other; in the presence of their closest family, friends and most importantly, their son.  Theirs was a wedding full of personal touches, with the bride lovingly creating many of the details you will see in the pictures - from the entire bridal party's attire, including her own gown, to the favours given to guests.  And unlike the pomp and pageantry that comes with Renaissance weddings, Emily and Greg's wedding was a beautifully fun yet laid-back affair with the iconic Fremantle as the backdrop.

Thank you Emily and Greg for allowing me to document this beautiful moment in your lives.

As I type this, I am stuffed with chocolate and so too are my boys. Despite the overdose in chocolate, we are mindful that Easter is an important date in the Christian calendar and is the basis of our Catholic faith.

From LaLa Photography, I hope you all had a blessed Easter. While I promised myself to take a break from ‘taking photos’, I couldn’t help but capture this sweet moment in the morning when my boys discovered the treats left behind by the Easter bunny.

LaLa Life 16

Week Sixteen

This picture was taken by my husband as I kept Andrew company while editing a wedding album. I feel very blessed to be able to do what I love (photography), call it work and still be around for my children as a mum! Still, juggling and achieving a work/life balance is an art form all on its own; one I am still trying to master. With school holidays around the corner, I know I'll be expecting many of my days to look like this :)

LaLa Life 15

Week Fifteen

** Taken on the iPhone and edited using the Photoshop Express app **

Recently I went to the wedding rehearsal of Emily and Greg, helping them scout for a location on the beach in which to hold their ceremony.  I took some photos on the fly using my iPhone and found these two fantastic photos!

The first photo is of a little girl who attended the rehearsal. She so over all the wedding talk that she couldn't resist the urge to run to the shore and jump into the water! The silhouette of this carefree girl against the enviable Fremantle sunset really struck a chord with me; a reminder to be spontaneous, to live life to the fullest and to just take that plunge and achieve my dreams!

The second photo is a silhouette of Emily and Greg upon finding a location on South Beach to hold their ceremony and I think this picture really reflects their beautifully laid-back nature. Yesterday, at the exact same location with their closest friends and family as witnesses, they became husband and wife in a beautiful afternoon ceremony. Congratulations Em and Greg <3
