"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." - author unknown.
After weeks of sunshine during autumn, winter decided to make an appearance on the 27th April. It could not have been a worst time; it was the day the Lumen Christi College class of 2011 were having their Hollywood themed year twelve school ball. The dreary weather did not dampen the spirits of a select group of year twelve friends who got together prior to the start of their amazing night. Adele, a relative of my husband, allowed me to document her pre-ball festivities. I opted to do so (predominately) in a photo-journalistic style.
After briefly taking some family photographs at Adele’s home we trekked to her friend’s house, which was to be the point where the limousine was to collect a group of close friends and their partners for the ball. Upon entering, there were parents armed with still and video cameras, capturing a special highlight of their children’s high school life. Adele’s friends were excited and complimenting each other on the efforts each took to look so beautiful for the night, while complaining at the same time that they have never smiled so much in their life and were confused as to which camera to look at. Being a wedding photographer, and with all the posing and prepping I go through with my brides and grooms, I found this highly amusing.
It was such a nostalgic event to photograph, especially considering my ten year high school reunion is scheduled to be held this year. Thank you Adele for letting me photograph this once in a lifetime moment for you. I hope the images I captured will help you to remember your year twelve ball, long after you have left high school.
Footnote: As I have written this blog post event, I am happy to report that the evening was a success and fun was had by all.
